"A DESIGNER from Essex who helped create the iPod, iPhone and iPad is tipped to take over US computer giant Apple.
Jonathan “Jony” Ive is being lined up to replace the firm’s co-founder Steve Jobs who has taken medical leave after a liver transplant.
The 44-year-old, from Chingford, is already in line for an £18million payout in a “golden handcuffs” deal agreed three years ago – taking his personal wealth to £80million.
Ive, who gave the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad their minimalist looks, owns a Bentley and an Aston Martin and has houses in Hawaii, San Francisco and England.
And he counts Stephen Fry, Bono and fashion designer Paul Smith among his celebrity friends.
Apple’s board want him to take over from Jobs but sources say the creative genius wants to spend more time at his £2.5million Georgian manor house in Somerset."
